Stem EMS provides a wide range of stretcher-supports and advanced devices for ambulance transport. The implemetantion of the experience gained in the field of power-assisted patient handling led to the creation of the Medical line in 2021.
Stem designs and manufactures lateral and rear steps for commercial and professional vehicles. The Stem steps – electrical, mechanical or manual – stand out for reduced dimensions and a certified capacity of 300 kg.
Since 1998, our Marine division has been building a wide range of work boats designed to meet the needs of water rescue, firefighting, recovery of victims from water and coastal patrolling.
Stem MedEvac designs and manufactures patient transport systems for military vehicles, as well as secondary systems and accessories, also developed upon specific customer request and capable of adapting to vehicles with particular characteristics, such as especially high loading platforms.
Stem Research and Development department has always been projected towards the future and the creation of innovative solutions in order to respond to the new needs of the domestic and international markets. Thanks to decades of experience in the sector, Stem develops custom projects according to the customer’s specifications.
All the Stem devices meet the European and national standards in force. In particular, products undergo 10g and 20g dynamic crash-test in order to ensure maximum safety and reliability.
Ezio Menna founds Stem Technology. The company is headquartered in Collecchio (PR), with three employees, three shareholders and a production area that initially covers 200 m².
We produce the first shock-absorbing stretcher supports (“COMFORT 1” and “COMFORT 2”) and the first electric steps for ambulance and special vehicles (“GE” series 1).
The shock-absorbing stretcher support “C4” is launched – it is the first product to obtain important international results. The same will be installed on the ambulances for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
New GE-2 series of electric steps is launched.
A promising opening to the foreign market begins with a cooperation with two of the most important ambulance manufacturers: the French Picot and the German Weinsberg.
The number of shareholders is now 2.
We begin to distribute Kussmaul auto-eject units in Europe and the Mediterranean area.
We manufacture the electric step “Shining step”, a benchmark on the international market as top quality for the next twenty years. It finds particular application on the German market and with the most famous ambulance manufacturers.
Stem begins the collaboration as Italian delegate of UNI by participating in the definition of the European standards for emergency vehicles and builds the first test bench for the 10g certified static verification of stretcher supports. Stem thus guarantees the structural safety of its products in accordance with the European standard.
The new headquarters are moved to Pilastro di Langhirano (PR). The production area is increased to 1500 m² and the number of employees has risen to 19 in the meantime.
Ezio Menna opens the Stem Marine division. The goal is to build a series of innovative work boats to respond to the needs of water rescue, fire fighting, easy recovery of victims from the water and, at the same time, characterized by high safety and navigation standards in shallow waters.
We develop the first special project on commission by an important German company. It is the stretcher support “ZEP01”.

We begin to export to the UK market thanks to the distribution partnership with the company Stedall, still ongoing.
We start our collaboration with the German company Tekma for the distribution of our steps in Germany.
The number of shareholders is further reduced and Stem becomes a single member LLC company.
We launch the project “EDEN”, destined to become over the years one of the best shock-absorbing stretcher supports in the world.
The need for increasingly lightweight, space-saving and highly resistant devices leads to the creation of the GE-3 electric steps, a new series in addition to the GE-2 and SHINING series.
In view of the weight reduction dictated by the needs of road transport, we review our projects and adopt high-strength steels for all our products
The headquarters are moved again, this time to Medesano (PR). The production area is enlarged to 5300 m² over an area of 20,000 m² and the number of employees rises to 50. The new location is designed according to the most modern solutions in terms of energy and working comfort and it has an internal panoramic canteen
The first welding robot with double workstation is installed in the metalwork department.
Stem is appointed by the CEN as draft standard Leader on stretcher supports – later approved under the name EN 1865-5.
Stem entrusts the French Automotive institute UTAC with the 10 g and 20 g dynamic tests on all its stretcher supports according to the new standard.
On commission by the company IVECO, we manufacture, as a special project, a shock-absorbing stretcher support with integrated loading system for anti-mines ambulances.

OOO Kemrant becomes Stem official distributor for the Russian market.
In accordance with the need of weigh reduction, we manufacture the stretcher support R-3L – a lightened version of the electro-mechanical stretcher support R-3. This new product has so far found particular success on the French market.
This year we are celebrating 30 years of activity.
We launch the OPTIMUS series of shock-absorbing stretcher supports, featuring loading capacity and shock absorption up to 400 kg.
In the same year, our Special Projects division presents the new stretcher support for nautical use “MAST15” for high-speed boats – another important product in the list of projects developped over the years.
The Stem France branch opens with the aim of having a direct presence in France and effectively responding to the needs of the after-sales service.
We launch the “SHERPA”, the first electronically controlled universal loading system for stretchers.
We move on to light alloys. In the constant search for weight reduction, we start manufacturing various components in aluminum alloy. A second welding robot specific for Aluminum is then purchased.
We sponsor the first EMTC 2019 – Emergency Medical Transport Conference – event at the Dallara Academy in Varano de Melegari, it is an immediate success.
We join the FAI – Italian Environment Fund for the protection and restoration of Italian cultural heritage.

Our webite is completely renewed along with the online step configurator, allowing users to autonomously identify the type of step that mostly meet their needs and vehicle
With the aim to create a more and more comfortable and cosy working environment, we have inaugurated a gym for all employees and promoted various team building activities, such as a white weekend.
To cope with the Sars-COV2 pandemic situation, we have created two new products for biocontainment and sanitization: Billy-CAB: biocontainment system fixed on the stretcher-support that allows to transport the patient in a semi-sitting position.
Sally-CAB: the only biocontainment system for stretchers allowing for rapid access to the patient to perform resuscitation procedures.
O3Z-Tech: the first ozone generator in the world for professional vehicles equipped with a certified 10g mount according to the UNI EN1789 standard.
In line with the continuous technological evolution, Stem feels the need to renew its image with a careful rebranding activity that led to the creation of the EMS, Commercial Vehicles and Marine division, in addition to a new logo and unique core design.
