Every year hundreds of rescue people are victims of physical and verbal violence. And even though they dedicate to medical care and emergency, they are not excluded from attacks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The National Observatory of Violence against the French fire-fighters is committed <strong>to protecting the body<\/strong> and has drawn up a report of the attacks <strong>suffered during 2021<\/strong>, comparing the data to previous years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Attacks and violence against French firefighters in 2021<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are some significant data from the study of 50 SDIS (i.e. Department Fire and Rescue Service):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>80% of attacks <\/strong>on French fire-fighters happen during <strong>the SUAP<\/strong>. SUAP stands for <a href=\"https:\/\/pompieractu.fr\/quest-ce-que-suap-sapeurs-pompiers\/#:~:text=Le%20Secours%20d%E2%80%99Urgence%20Aux%20Personnes%20%28SUAP%29%20est%20l%E2%80%99une,prodiguer%20des%20soins%20d%E2%80%99urgence%20aux%20personnes%20en%20d%C3%A9tresse.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Secours d\u2019Urgence Aux Personnes<\/strong> <\/a>(Emergency rescue to people);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>62% of cases<\/strong> the violence is amplified by the effects of alcohol and drugs;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>80% of the time <\/strong>the person responsible for the aggression is the patient;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assaults occur mainly <strong>during treatment<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.francebleu.fr\/infos\/faits-divers-justice\/pays-basque-la-caserne-d-anglet-mene-une-action-symbolique-apres-l-agression-de-trois-sapeurs-1562514825\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"884\" height=\"501\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stem.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Immagine-interna-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36498\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stem.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Immagine-interna-2.jpg 884w, https:\/\/www.stem.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Immagine-interna-2-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.stem.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Immagine-interna-2-768x435.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.stem.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Immagine-interna-2-705x400.jpg 705w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 884px) 100vw, 884px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why does violence break out during operations of this type?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The National Observatory thinks that we should start from this question <strong>to anticipate violent events<\/strong>. Some proposals for protection and prevention focus on the training of <strong>individual workers<\/strong>. Adopting <strong>the right posture <\/strong>or <strong>learning defense techniques<\/strong> could make all the difference. Even <strong>the creation of a database<\/strong> reporting the addresses of sensitive individuals because they were subjected to <strong>TSO<\/strong>, for example, or previously involved in aggressions could contribute to prevention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In terms of education, <strong>the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ensosp.fr\/french-national-fire-officers-academy#:~:text=The%20French%20National%20Fire%20Officers%20Academy%20%28ENSOSP%29%20has,as%20health%20service%20officers%20%28nurses%2C%20doctors%2C%20pharmacists%2C%20veterinarians%29.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>ENSOSP (The French National Fire Officers Academy)<\/strong> <\/a>plays a <strong>fundamental role<\/strong> not only in preparing the French fire-fighters, but also CTAs, often victims of verbal violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no data showing the same situation in all districts. Some SDIS do not have any violent episodes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The study divides the attacks <strong>by category<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Verbal violence;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Physical violence;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Violence with guns;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Violence with other weapons;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is also to consider <strong>minor and serious injuries from 2018 to 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Violence against french firefighters: a<strong>ttacks from<\/strong> <strong>2018 to 2021<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From 2020 to 2021, there was <strong>a drop in attacks of 14%<\/strong>, but<strong> verbal violence has increased drastically between 2018 and 2019<\/strong> and has never improved since then but has stabilized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We can note that serious injuries have decreased, this can be interpreted as greater by <strong>the French fire-fighters<\/strong>, as well as a confirmation that there is no anti-firefighter sentiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Education and awareness are essential to ensure that this figure continues to decline. It is essential to remember <strong>to report every episode<\/strong> to strengthen the fight against violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"723\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stem.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Schema-dati-Articolo-violenza-SP.png\" alt=\"2021 data about violence and aggression against french fire-fighters\" class=\"wp-image-36190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.stem.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Schema-dati-Articolo-violenza-SP.png 723w, https:\/\/www.stem.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Schema-dati-Articolo-violenza-SP-300x187.png 300w, https:\/\/www.stem.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Schema-dati-Articolo-violenza-SP-705x439.png 705w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 723px) 100vw, 723px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <em>Observatoire National Des Violences Envers les Sapeurs Pompiers<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As previously mentioned, these are <strong>not always highly dangerous situations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report reports the example of a pregnant woman who refuses help and <strong>verbally and physically attacks two fire-fighters<\/strong>. The rescuers did not sustain serious injuries, but the fact remains that <strong>they were attacked while trying to provide assistance<\/strong> to a pregnant woman with visible injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>New devices for the protection of the French fire-fighters<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Article 57 of the Matras law for the protection of French special forces<\/strong> speaks of a device for protection in the event of aggression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is <strong>an individual camera<\/strong> that the fire-fighter can decide to wear and turn on during a shift. This camera must be turned on by the operator, it does not automatically record. Furthermore, the device cannot be hidden but <strong>must remain clearly visible and marked<\/strong>. Let\u2019s see:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you intend to start a recording it is <strong>necessary to inform the people present<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Images may be used for <strong>educational purposes or as evidence in court<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Everything recorded is <strong>broadcast live<\/strong> to the base of operations;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recordings are <strong>automatically deleted after 6 months<\/strong> if they are not used as judicial evidence;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Other devices<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The firefighters of the <strong>Maritime Alps<\/strong> have tried new protective tools such as <strong>bulletproof vests and anti-aggression vests<\/strong>.
