{"id":19767,"date":"2021-11-26T09:06:29","date_gmt":"2021-11-26T08:06:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.stem.it\/?p=19767"},"modified":"2025-02-25T11:12:46","modified_gmt":"2025-02-25T10:12:46","slug":"stretcher-supports-and-person-centred-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stem.it\/en\/community\/stretcher-supports-and-person-centred-care\/","title":{"rendered":"The most used stretcher-supports in Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each country has its \u201cown\u201d basic model for the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stretcher\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ambulance stretcher<\/a> base<\/strong> <strong>and support<\/strong> to use for rescue. The use of an ambulance stretcher is very important to provide person centred care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The solution is made according to a mix of elements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>tradition<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>rescue organization<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>staff training<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>predisposition to technological innovation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>budget<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is not a catch-all solution because each country-system is based on the prevalence of different&nbsp;elements than others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A differentiated and dynamic scenario<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A quick review shows that <strong>Italy and France<\/strong> still like to use manual stretcher-supports. On the other side, Germany is rather choosing for <strong>electrical stretcher-support<\/strong>, as the <strong>Netherlands<\/strong> already did. <strong>East-Europe countries<\/strong> look at the German model of emergency system and are changing from manual to electrical stretcher-supports, also high-tech solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The data collected by Stem Technology stand for the situation in several European countries. More specifically, the 2.400 local organizations in <strong>Italy<\/strong> mainly use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stem.it\/en\/products\/modular-stretcher-supports-with-single-or-double-housing-fixed-or-with-sideways-movement-moduline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MODU-1-TR and the MODU-2-TR<\/a> <strong>stretcher-supports with single or double compartment <\/strong>and 300mm <strong>lateral movement<\/strong> with pedal activation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other side, <strong>France<\/strong> prefers the model <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stem.it\/en\/products\/r-3l-xp-electromechanical-stretcher-support-with-lifting-and-tilting-functions\/#:~:text=Electromechanical%20stretcher%20support%20with%20lifting%20and%20inclination%20functions,storage%20space%20for%20spine%20board%20or%20scoop%20stretcher.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">R-3L<\/a> which stands out for the <strong>several features<\/strong> and <strong>simplicity of use<\/strong>; it also has a safety system to unload the stretcher also in case of power failure, as in all the Stem electro-mechanical stretcher-supports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In <strong>Germany<\/strong>\u00a0people use more the electrical system <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stem.it\/en\/products\/stretcher-support-with-electric-inclination-for-loading-mec-el\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MEC-EL<\/a> even if the market is now looking for the advanced version Compact-EL, a stretcher-support with <strong>standard double-compartment<\/strong>\u00a0to put the spinal-board and scoop stretcher. The tilting tray control allows to <strong>adjust the loading height<\/strong>: the <strong>pedal-release lateral movement<\/strong>\u00a0allows to lock the stretcher-support in any position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The trend towards the shock-absorbing stretcher-supports<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a growing interest in <strong>advanced stretcher-supports<\/strong> and the <strong>suspension mode<\/strong> is an indispensable innovation for different types of patients, such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK554426\/#:~:text=Polytrauma%20is%20when%20a%20patient%20has%20sustained%20multiple,accidents%3B%20other%20causes%20include%20suicide%20and%20homicide%20attempts.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">polytrauma patients<\/a><\/strong>, who need a reduction in the vibrations and jumps due to the numerous artificial road bumps for a better clinical course.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<br>\u00a0<br>A <strong>patient\u2019s experience<\/strong> who, following a road accident, had <strong>to undertake oxygen therapy<\/strong> in hyperbaric chamber for his limb recovery is enlightening. Transfer from the hospital ward implied <strong>two ambulance trips<\/strong> per day. The patient had undertaken numerous sessions on both rigid and shock-absorbing stretcher-supports. In the latter, the amount of vibrations transmitted to the injured limb was significantly lower, for the benefit of the therapy itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class='avia-iframe-wrap'><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Davide\u2019s testimony on the importance of the shock-absorbing stretcher support | Stem Technology\" width=\"1500\" height=\"844\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/U7Tfjh9cnq4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The market for electrical stretcher-supports &#8211; person centred care<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the electrical stretcher-supports, the market is focusing on <strong>high level performance<\/strong>, as offered by two models in particular: OPTIMUS-PESP-TR and <strong>EDEN<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stretcher-support <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stem.it\/en\/products\/eden-xp-new-generation-stretcher-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EDEN<\/a><\/strong>, thanks to its <strong>hydro-pneumatic shock-absorbing system<\/strong> allows for a reduction of vibrations, eliminating the motion sickness causing discomfort to the patient. In addition, EDEN adjusts suspension from 0 kg to 400 kg, thus adapting to any patient, even to children.<br>In collaboration with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unipd.it\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University of Padua<\/a>, Stem has studied and tested how to measure the efficiency and benefits of this stretcher-support, according to the ISO 2631-1 standard on the impact of vibration of human body during transport. It was found that <strong>low frequency vertical vibrations<\/strong>, the most damaging, are reduced by <strong>50%<\/strong>. EDEN is then recommended for any transport: heart attack, polytrauma, intubated, neonatal and paediatric patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class='avia-iframe-wrap'><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Shock absorbing stretcher support for ambulances mod. EDEN\" width=\"1500\" height=\"844\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8QvVvo-vH7k?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Emphasis on the operator and the safety of the patient &#8211; person centred care: the loading system<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nor should it be forgotten<strong> the importance of a loading system<\/strong> to simplify the loading and unloading of the stretcher that sometimes may cause serious illness to the operators\u2019 musculoskeletal system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A powered system such as<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stem.it\/en\/products\/sherpa-universal-electronically-controlled-loading-system-for-stretchers-equipped-with-s-u-s\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> the SHERPA<\/a><\/strong> that, thanks to a quick release belt, pulls or release the stretcher to\/from the stretcher-support to eliminate the loading effort, also in case of bariatric transports. This also prevents accidents from occurring during the unloading phase: the safety belt <strong>\u201cholds\u201d <\/strong>the stretcher until when it is completely unfolded.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<br>In this context, the technological progress fosters a <strong>more emphatic approach <\/strong>in the operator. Free from mechanical efforts and with fewer concerns, the rescuer has more time <strong>to provide emotional and psychological support to the patient <\/strong>and his\/her relatives, especially in cases of rescue at home.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This overview on the choice of emergency and rescue devices in Europe gives a feeling that <strong>rescue vehicles are versatile<\/strong> and that ambulances are equipped with several types of stretcher-supports.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Each European country uses different types of ambulance stretcher base and support to provide a person centred care.
