Patient transport on military ambulance
We still know little about patient transport on military ambulance but this is worth further research because of its features and characteristics.
A special vehicle for rescue in critical areas is the first requirement to ensure an efficient transport and save patients’ life.
2008 has marked a cornerstone in this context: the L.D 209/2008 introduced in Italy the figure of the military rescuer in the Armed Forces, a figure with a medical background specific to rescue, transport and take care of patients in critical areas and even in non-conventional contexts of conflict.
The rescue vehicles also changes and are now equipped with more medical devices and equipment, besides a ballistic and anti-mine protection.
Military rescue vehicles. Characteristics and problems
Military rescue vehicles have some peculiarities on a structural level: they are very high vehicles making difficult to load and unload the patient with using the main stretchers with standard height.
In addition to this critical point, there are the uneven ground and the rough route encountered by these rescue vehicles.
Any solicitation, vibration and impact to the patient during transport can harm further and considerably his/her health conditions, especially if they are serious.
Finally, anti-mine ambulances require to hook the stretcher-support and the seats on ceiling so as to protect the patients and the medical staff in the event of an explosion.
All these characteristics and specific fields of application make these rescue vehicles special vehicles with the need of specially-designed devices.
Stem for military vehicles. Shock-absorbing stretcher-support and loading system
Military rescue vehicles have a different structure than traditional ambulances. How to load the patient in a vehicle that is higher than the standard? How to ensure that the patient is transported as comfortably as possible? How to fasten the stretcher on anti-mine ambulances?
Starting from these questions, we studied, developed and manufactured Eden HV 2000: shock-absorbing stretcher support for military vehicles with adjustable tilting and extractable tray. Thanks to a reinforced hydro-pneumatic suspension system, it ensures a reduction of vibration effects during the transport on rough routes: a key factor for the patient’s health and comfort. Moreover, its triple extraction tray has been specifically designed for stretcher loading and unloading on/from special vehicles, higher than the standard.
In addition to the stretcher-support Eden, we developed the assisted loading and unloading system Sherpa to simplify this type of procedures and eliminate any effort for the operator. The combination between Eden HV 2000 and Sherpa enables to work with maximum efficiency on military rescue vehicles. Full safety for the operators and comfortable transport for the patients.
Stem technology also designed a revolutionary loading system specific for anti-mine ambulances. This allows to keep the stretcher separate from the vehicle floor to preserve the patient from the fatal impact that may happen in the event of accidental transit on an unexploded mine.
The automatic system, hydraulically assisted, allows to load the stretchers starting from a height of 700mm to 1600mm in 15 seconds.
Special Projects by Stem Technology
The stretcher-support Eden HV 2000, Sherpa and the loading system for anti-mine ambulances are part of the broad range of Stem products, conceived and manufactured to satisfy specific situations and needs. Stem Technology special projects are innovative solution able to fully meet the specific needs of the domestic and international markets.
